Democrats, Fried Chicken Nuggets, and the Muslims

"Unfortunately, the Democratic Party of today bears no resemblance to the one I remember from my youth in a blue collar New Jersey neighborhood...It has been hijacked by left-wing ideologues who will say anything, do anything, right or wrong to enhance their power even at the expense of democracy and the rule of law." -- Lawrence Sellin, PhD in Family Security Matters

A TV commercial: "She had jewelry she never wore. So she brought it down to Fast Eddie. 'He gave me more money than anyone else.'" --- Well.....How much money did other people give you, and why aren't they in possession of the jewelry? Why would Fast Eddie give you money for jewelry that was already sold to someone else?

[This picture has nothing to do with the article, but I owned a 1965 Mustang---though mine was blue.

Although the jury and lawsuits are still out about the controversy of HFCS [High Fructose Corn Syrup] v Sugar, one can't help but notice that while some kids are allergic to HFCS, they are not allergic to sugar [either cane or beet.] If the two substances are the same, as the Corn companies tell us, this couldn't happen. Could it? The Corn companies are still battling lawsuits concerning their 'HFCS is the same as Sugar in your body. Ask a couple of overweight people about it.

Rebekah Speight sure has time on her hands. She's got this chicken nugget [I wonder how much money and investigation and eating she went through to find it] that vaguely looks like the George Washington representation on the quarter. [Actually, it does bear an uncanny resemblence to a Colonial, not necessarily George Washington---anyway, after a few weeks it'll shrink as it decomposes.] Some jerk actually bid $8,100 on Ebay for it. But when he won it? He chickened out. Now, it's out there again---along with similar nuggets said to represent Mozart, Santa Clause, Jay Leno, Elvis, Chelsea Handler, and the Easter Bunny. [Well, I'm here to say I know the Easter Bunny, and the chicken nugget isn't him!] None of the others actually looks like what they're said to resemble---even when the owner has taken pen with ink to assist in the depiction---though I'm not familiar with the name Chelsea Handler.

Let's see? Another TV commercial: That Mayhem fellow only appears in Allstate commercials. And he only seems to damage things NOT under an Allstate insurance policy. Besides, his paycheck comes from Allstate. So, based on the information provided, I can only see that Mayhem occurs in non-Allstate created by an Allstate employee. In other words, buy Allstate or else.

Don't assume I'm anti-Allstate [I'm just anti-stupid commercial.] The other advertising insurance companies are just as dumb in their commercials. They think all Americans are stupid and swayed by their shenanigans on videotape.

[A hundred years ago on April 10]

In retrospect of my last entry, here are the words to the song 'Colors', as performed by April Smith and the Great American Picture Show in the recent Lowes commercial---you know, the one with the paint colors swirling and dancing all over the landscape.

"I’ll wear your colors my dear
Until you’re standing right here
Next to the one who adores you
Whose heart is beating for you
Like a lighthouse guides a shipwrecked sailor safely from the sea
I’ll wear your colors til you come back home to me."

A thoughful approach to the dangers of the Muslims: I don't think Islam qualifies for any name other than a terror cult filled with hate and violence. Just read the Koran---and not just the early parts of peace that are preempted by the latter parts. This World situation with the Muslims is more serious than the Nazis or Communists because of the insidious invasions under the blind eyes of our so-called 'leaders.' Obama was born of a Muslim father, was a Muslim child in a Muslim school in Indonesia, spent twenty years listening to the hate speech from Jeremiah Wright, and calls domestic terrorists and their supporters his long-standing friends. As President, he kowtows before foreign potentates [mostly Muslim,] apologizes to for the existence of the USA to practically any Country demanding it, claims there is no terrorism and Jihad is acceptable, and promoted the construction of a conquest Mosque near Ground Zero. Obama is pushing this Country regularly towards a second revolution against the Government---and not from the freaks from the Occupy movements---a government that no longer represents the people---that is if he doesn't bankrupt the Country first. And his political party not only give him everything he wants, but go further with their remarks and actions. Oh, sweet November, please hurry and save us!

Also remember that the Muslims were violent right from their beginning in the 7th Century. Just read the Koran and other Muslim Holy Books. These violent and hatred based invasions are not new. In 732, the Muslim conquest was stopped by Charles Martel in mid France. In 1683 [September 11, by the way], the Muslims were stopped in Vienna by the King of Poland. The Muslims have always been taught to hate and conquer non-believers, treat other-than-Muslims as second class citizens, promote misogynism, and lie to achieve their ends. And this was started long before the US came into being. Wake up America! there. All Muslim Mosques should be closed because of their terrorist teachings and hate speech. This is all a case of American security and protection and not freedom of religion. You clowns down in Washington are supposed to protect us from terrorism and sedition, both foreign and domestic. Where's Charles Martel when we need him?

By the way, these are all factual comments. As Casey Stengel used to say, "You can look them up!"

Free Auto Insurance, National Denial, and Alouette!

Yes, I know I've been on a commercial kick lately. But in my defense, most commercials and ads give a lot of fodder for questioning from those who find them usually so ridiculous.

Major auto insurance companies continually put in their commercials how changing to their policies saves you $400 or $500 a year from the other guy. On a television commercial, Jerry Newman left State Farm and his agent Jessica to save money at the 15 minute place [Geico]. He crashed his car through the brick wall of his house and wants to go back to State Farm. [Personally, I wouldn't cover him for anything. He's a bad risk.] And Jessica gives Jerry the spiel how he could save $400 or $500 by switching to State Farm from Geico. Now, think about that. If all these claims are accurate, a driver could switch a couple of times and come out with no cost insurance! Saved $400 in fifteen minutes by switching from State Farm to Geiko. Now he can save another $400 by switching from Geico back to State Farm Then, he can save $400 more by switching from State Farm to 21st Century, ad infinitum. How long before you reach a zero cost policy!

During a Press Conference in 2008, Barack Obama was asked by General Bill Ginn [USAF ret'd] '...why he doesn't follow protocol when the National Anthem is played...?'

"...The General also noted for the Senator that according to the United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171... During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform are expected to stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. At the very least, "Stand and Face It..."

[Remember, Barack Obama was running for the Presidency of the United States]

"As I've said about the flag pin, I don't want to be perceived as taking sides...There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression. And the anthem itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all. It should be swapped for something less parochial and less bellicose. I like the song 'I'd Like To Teach the World To Sing...If that were our anthem, then I might salute it. We should consider to reinvent our National Anthem as well as to redesign our Flag to better offer our enemies hope and love. It's my intention, if elected, to disarm America to the level of acceptance to our Middle East Brethren. If we as a Nation of warring people, should conduct ourselves as the nations of Islam, whereas peace prevails. Perhaps a state or period of mutual concord between our governments. When I become President,I will seek a pact or agreement to end hostilities between those who have been at war or in a state of enmity, and a freedom from disquieting oppressive thoughts. We as a Nation have placed upon the nations of Islam an unfair injustice. My wife disrespects the Flag for many personal reasons. Together she and I have attended several flag burning ceremonies in the past, many years ago. She has her views and I have mine...Of course now, I have found myself about to become the President of the United States and I have put aside my hatred. I will use my power to bring CHANGE to this Nation, and offer the people a new path of hope. My wife and I look forward to becoming our Country's First Family. Indeed, CHANGE is about to overwhelm the United States of America."

Of course, the mainstream media buried this comment. And enough people out there still voted for him. And we have a total mess in this Country because of his policies and profligate spending. I don't suggest anyone ask him about the Constitution this time around. And let's hope our voter friends learn their lessons and vote for 'anybody but Obama!.' Except, of course, the Ron Paul chaos.

Target's recent commercial is backed by a 1958 recording of 'Alouette' by the Delta Rhythm Boys. Sounds great.

MyLowes, on the other hand, has chosen a more modern setting for its flying, swirling paint colors. The song is 'Colors', and it's written and sung by April Smith and the Great American Picture Show. I searched the group, and I'll be purchasing and downloading their album with the full version of colors. During my search, I also came across a duet named Secret Sisters. They remind me of the old duo Patience and Prudence. Their first album [late last year] has Sinatra's 'Something Stupid' on it, and I like the sound. I may be buying and downloading that one too.

Airoptix has a new set of Lenses 'for people who sleep in their lenses.' I don't know about you, but I sleep in my pajamas and a bed. I've never seen a lens big enough to sleep in. And I certainly wouldn't want it in my eye.

And finally, we have the Pizza Hut Dinner Box where the announcer enthusiastically states: "Best of all, the $10 dinner box is only ten bucks!" I wonder if the guy who thought that one up got a raise? "Remember, our nickel cigar is now a buck!" Instead of the Clio, these guys should be getting the asp.

Whisper: just pay separate processing and shipping

*Every time I see a documentary about a sunken ship and its investigation, the sea seems filled with snowflakes. I'm not a marine biologist. Does anyone know what those things are? They seem to be floating with the current and make the sunken ships seem like Christmas decorations. Are they plankton? Krill? I can see that they're not air bubbles. They vary in size and seem solid, if flaky. Do the fish have 'snow' shovels?

*My ears and eyes continue to be assailed by those TV commercials from a collectors' mint about gold coin proofs of all sizes. The beginning of each commercial describes in detail the make-up and history of a gold coin with inflated value numbers, making it sound as if you're going to be able to buy one. Then they pop in with their actual product: a 'proof.' Now according to the Ask.com dictionary, in numismatics a proof is "one of a limited number of coins of a new issue struck from polished dies on a blank having a polished or matte surface." The Government Mint sells proof sets all the time. But, the TV dealers just create a new definition of the term for their own benefits. And they don't explain the differences. They call their product [a non usable coin, by the way; and generally having no secondary market] a gold proof, but they also sneak in the modifying word "clad." And of course, the ubiquitous 'certificate of authenticity.' What's that? Does the certificate state that the company is shamming the buyer? Does it explain there's no re-seller market? Then, in small print you find that gold clad means the use of 10mg or 15mg or 55mg---though you'll rarely hear about any 'clad' that heavy---pure gold. At the conversion rate, each quoted mg equals .000032 ounce of gold. What? All those zeros after the decimal and before an actual crooked number? Of course. .000032 troy ounce of gold at $1,200 per troy ounce equals 38 cents, 57 cents, and $1.90! respectively.

And if gold skyrockets to $1,500 per troy ounce? Well, the calculation leads to 48 cents, 72 cents, and $2.40! The ads claim they can't guarantee the prices for very long. Hah!! Have I got a bridge to sell you! Besides, the same commercial keeps running and running and the price never changes. It doesn't have to. There's so much profit built into the price already---and most other TV ads spout the same $19.95 [a number rarely exceeded in any TV ad.] Foggeddaboutit! These are not investment articles. If you need gold, buy gold directly from a reputable dealer. Their gold pieces are actually gold and not some unknown center clad with a few cents of gold leaf.

By the way, National Collector's mint is selling a 'clad proof' of the 1933 Double Eagle for $19.95 [31.1mg in the clad.] That gold content is worth $1.19. Is this object worth $19.95 and no resale market? You decide.

*I'm impressed with the simplicity of the credits for the movie 'All That Money Can Buy' 1941, better known as 'The Devil and Daniel Webster.' After the title, we see a list of 'Before the Camera' personnel, and then a list for 'Behind the Camera' personnel. No fighting for predominance of larger letters and the luster now shown by calling pictures by their directors' names, or including the names of actors before the title. Egos are always out-sized in Hollywood, usually from the feelings of [mostly false] self-importance and wealth. We need to return to simplicity. Doesn't Hollywood realize that super egotism is leading the film industry to near irrelevance?

*I've often wondered at the stupidity of movie and television criminals. When they outnumber the good guy [Walker, Texas Ranger as an example], why do they stand back and only attack him one by one---or by two in a carefully choreographed stupidity. If they grouped and attacked all at once, they'd have subdued him. But I guess that wouldn't make good results for a movie or TV show, would it? In most cases, a real attack by three people would probably corral any hero.

*One way of reducing cell phone and texting time when you're doing the calling is to allow your call to ring more than three times. It's hardly enough time for the other party to get from one room to another to answer you. Impatient America, what's your hurry?---yes, it happens to me.

*I wish State Farm, GEICO, 21st Century, and the rest of the companies showing television ads today would define their terms: such as coverage, time span, deductible, etc. And that means telling what the base is for giving discounts. 40% off what? 15% off what? If one has a lower basic rate, then having a smaller percentage off might actually be a bigger savings in dollars in many cases? And the savings on switching from other companies claiming great discounts doesn't make sense. So, this is a situation where the insurance companies all fighting amongst themselves with apples and oranges and pears. 'My 40% savings is bigger than your 40% savings!' By the way, NONE of these insurance companies is planning on losing money selling insurance this way. And some of the commercials are getting very arrogant with their condescending attitudes---like those with the smarmy young gun spouting off about State Farm.

*The kiss of death: 'just pay separate shipping and handling [processing.]' Interested in 'Mighty Fix-It?' 'Get three rolls for $10---but wait! We'll add another three rolls simply for processing and shipping.' Now just how expensive can it be to send six rolls of this stuff through the mail? $2? $3? Since processing and shipping is $5.95, you're actually paying $21.90 for those six rolls? A bargain? I don't rightly know. All I know is that all these TV ads doubling your offer for a separate processing and shipping charge---practically noted in a whisper so you can miss it---are all expensive choices. You don't actually think these people are in business for their health? Of course not. Most of the processing and shipping charges along with the basic product minus a probable cheap production cost give them a tidy profit. Otherwise, they wouldn't be buying TV air time. [By the way: each roll of 'Mighty Fix-It' is ten feet long, and you could use it up with just one or two of the applications shown on TV---especially if you're prone to overkill.

*Another spurious value currently being touted on TV is the 'Optic 1050' binocular offer. Just $19.98 for this great binocular---but wait again, we'll include a pencil type spy-scope [I've had one of those. They're virtually worthless.] But wait again and again! We'll include a smaller, travel binocular as well. All this for the basic price and the various duplicated shipping and handling costs. A $200 value! Where??? Duh??? These spyglasses are certainly not worth $200. For a $200 expenditure, you'll be able to buy a reputable binocular with average quality. Better binoculars cost anywhere from $500 to $2,000.

*I have nothing against companies advertising their useful and fairly priced goods. I just don't like the mis-information and outright lying in some TV ads. If Congress really wants to do something useful, stop taxing small business to death and go after the TV liars.

* I was once a big fan of archaeology, especially of Ancient Egypt. But in these modern days, I find it more and more to be a type of modern grave robbing. The archaeologists are very concerned with dead bodies. They find them, unbury them, date them, and put them on display for all to see---thus proving that no matter how wealthy you are, you're still completely helpless in death. The wealthy have big tombs and monuments, so a couple of thousand years from now---assuming human beings are still alive and kicking---they'll be the ones dug up and studied. [I hope the archaeologists are too.] So much for the sanctity of the human body. Actually, you can fool them all and be cremated!

*There's much consternation about the falling attendance at NASCAR events. I know the bad economy and the oppressive tax burdens have combined to reduce the gate, but I also think NASCAR is chopping down its own tree. So, I suggest some changes. Firstly, award five points for the pole position as well as allowing the driver to pick first for pit lane box. Secondly, since NASCAR wants a play-off, it should do it right. The twelve chase drivers should line up in the first twelve positions for every race in the chase, according to qualifying speeds. The rest of the drivers can line up behind them based on qualifying speed. Thus two drivers will get the pole points, but the twelve chase drivers should have first picks on the pit lane boxes. The race would be more of a 'chase race' then, and the top twelve cars---who raced 2/3rds of a season to get where they finished---should be predominate in each of the races. Of course, that doesn't prevent a non-chase driver from winning or placing in the top few spots. It just the top twelve who should be spotlighted by NASCAR.

*If, like the TV commercial says to the general public, it's 'your Pizza Hut,' does that mean I'll be going getting profit-sharing checks? How much is my share and when do I get it? I'd be okay taking it all in free pizza.

*'Get your thicker, higher gloss hair from our product.' Then these models swirl their hair all around to give you an idea of what to expect. Now, be honest. How often do you see a women with hair like that in real life? I thought so. I never see them either. You'd think they could come up with a better type of commercial for all these hair products.

*There are a lot of movies out there where the star's singing voice is dubbed. My sense is if the star can't sing, that star shouldn't be in a movie that calls for it. What's next? Dubbing lines? Using the stand in for most of the movie? The whole Hollywood experience needs a complete overhaul. Never mind the financial firms. Pass a bill about Hollywood and its extremists.

Random Thoughts Circa Today

Why do insurance companies peddle their wares claiming they 'protect your life?' They do nothing of the kind. Vaccinations, insulin, antibiotics, Doctors, Nurses, bullet-proof vests, etc. protect your life. Life insurance is essentially gambling. With you're premiums, you're betting that your funeral and heirs will be taken care of financially, but it won't cost you much, and you can spend the bulk of your money any way you want during your life. The life insurance companies are betting that you'll survive long enough to cover most of the policy's face value and allow them to invest your premium money for income. All in all, the companies don't plan on losing, and you have the usual incentives to prolong your life [who really wants to die?] So, it isn't surprising that the insurance companies will play hardball with some estates for people who have suspicious deaths.

"Life is too precious not to protect." A decidedly misleading statement when you really think about it.

How can a condensed soup brand advertise that it's so comfortably thick and cooked without extra water, thus improving the taste of a soup? Doesn't the manufacturer know that the can's instructions tell you to add a can of water? It seems to me that's a pretty feeble and misleading ad.
***
TV commercials are often hilarious. The powers-that-be scheduling of each commercial during the prevalent three minute break can sometimes be laughable. For instance, there was an ad for Phillips OTC medicine for colon health, to help us with those sometimes difficult times in our digestive system.

So, naturally, the next commercial was for Pizza Hut---and not just plain pizza, but the 'Panormous' pizza [guaranteed to give everyone heartburn.] And often, this type of commercial is followed by a Jennie Craig or Nutri-Systems advertisement.

I think I'll insure my soup and pizza against being eaten.
